5 Money Saving Must Have Bike Tools

Nov 2nd 2017

Every cyclist will need to adjust, inflate, check and calibrate their bike. Making sure you've got the right tools for the problem is key in keeping your bike in tip top shape as well as a key factor in bike safety. Riding around in under-inflated tires, with a chain that's about to break, or gears that haven't been properly checked will cost more and put yourself and others on the road in danger. Here's the first 5 must have tools for every cyclist.

Floor Pump

We recommend a floor pump that has a gauge to show the tire pressure.Your tires will naturally lose air over time.Different types of bike tires (mountain bike, road bike, hybrid, cruisers) will need different pressure levels, so make sure to mark on your gauge where the ideal amount of pressure for your bike should be. Check your tire pressure at least every other ride.

Tire Lever

You'll need to use a tire lever to get your tire off its rim when you're fixing a flat. Without this essential tool, getting your tire off the rim will be a pain and possibly damage your rim. This simple tool will prevent unnecessary rim replacements or damage to your tube.

Allen Wrench (Hex Keys)

These are the sizes you will most likely need: 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm. You'll need these for many different components on your bike. This might be the difference between saving time going to a mechanic or taking care of it yourself.

Chain Lube

You don't want to wear out your drivetrain, nor do you want to make grinding and crunching noises every time you pedal and shift. Without chain lube, your drivetrain will wear out prematurely and will cost you more than just a bottle of lube. You can even get fancy and purchase self cleaning lube which will help clean the chain as it lubricates it.

Multi Tool

Having one of these on you during your ride can be a headache saver. You can use any number of the tools on this multi-tool to make adjustments and repairs.
