The 2018 Tour de France is from July 7th to July 29th. We've got the overview you need to catch up before the big finale on Sunday, July 29th. 

Here is the route for the 105th Tour de France. It takes place in France with small detours into the Pyrenees in the Spain and France border. This year the race starts a week late due to conflicting dates with the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The race is made up of 22 teams with a total of 176 riders from 30 different countries.

The favorite to win and defending champion is Chris Froome, from Team Sky. Froome is most notably a 4 time Tour de France champion. He is trying for his 5th win. 

There are only 4 cyclists who have won the Tour de France 5 times: Jacques Anquetil (FRA), Eddy Merckx (BEL),  Bernard Hinault (FRA), andMiguel Indurain (ESP). Lance Armstrong was stripped of his 7 wins because of the doping scandal. 

A total of USD $2,670,390 cash prizes are awarded in the race. (All amounts are converted from Euros to USD)

All riders who finished in the top 160 are awarded some cash prize.

Those who placed 2nd-20th are given smaller amounts. 

The Souvenir Henri Desgrange winner (first rider to pass the Col du Portet, the summit of the highest climb in the Tour, stage 17) awarded USD $5,836. 

The Souvenir Jacques Goddet winner (first rider to pass Goddet's memorial, the summit of the Col du Tourmalet, stage 19) awarded USD $5,836.
