5. Flashing Red Rear Lights and Bright Head Light

Absolutely a safety necessity, flashing red rear lights alerts drivers and other cyclists where you are. Weather conditions, time of day and lighting are all variables that change every moment, make sure you're letting people on the road know you're there. A bright head light can mean the difference between riding directly into a pothole or debris and being able to avoid dangers that lie ahead on the road. Don't cheap out on your bike lights. These are investment pieces- good lights will be bright and last a long time.

4. Water Bottle & Bottle Cage

Cycling is generally a two handed sport. You'll want a bottle cage attached to your bike to hold your filled water bottle so it's easy access at all times. Stay hydrated!

3. Helmet and Gloves

Ever hear of road rash? It happens when for whatever reason, you fall from your bike (or thrown) and you sliiiiiide across the pavement/asphalt/concrete. Your skin will NOT take this well. A helmet is in most places a legal necessity and will save your life. Gloves will save your hands if you take a fall and reach out with your hands to break your fall. Protect yourself!

2. Multi Tool

Ever been stranded? It's not a good time. Ever had something break and you had just the right tool to fix it? Your multi-tool will fix multi-problems that arise during a ride.

1. Personal Items: Phone/Keys/Wallet

Your personal items will help you when you've reached your destination. Your keys and your wallet - well, it's a pain when you've forgotten them at any point outside the house.

Many iPhones have an emergency medical ID function which will alert emergency response teams to any vital health issues or contact information. Check out your "Health" app and select the "Medical ID" icon, which will give you options to list out medical conditions, allergies, and emergency contacts. This is accessible even when the phone is in lock-mode.
